COMPANY

It began in 1919, when Ajax and Ace were founded under the leadership of Meade McClanahan.   Working on locomotive steam boilers, Meade parlayed his knowledge of boilers into a boiler repair business, which evolved into a design and manufacturing business.  A few decades later, when WWII made raw material scarce, Meade closed Ace,  and sold Ajax to the Fulkerson family.  Later, in the 1950’s, Meade started Ace up again, which he ran until his death in the 1960s.

As a young Mechanical Engineer, Ed Cancilla purchased Ace in 1967 and Ajax in 1977.   Through the 1980’s the businesses grew rapidly and were reunited under one Company name, Ajax Boiler Inc.  Both Ace and Ajax retained their distinctive brand names, which today continue to be recognized as distinguished engineered products designed for efficiency and excellence.

Ed has served as Chief Engineer, overseeing the design and development of new product development and existing product improvements.  Ed’s first Ace innovation was his 1969 patent for the self-supporting copper cone coil. The unique design solved the problem of sagging coils, extending the life of the coil by decades.

As a young businessman, Ed appreciated the laws of the market, believing that in order to survive in any market, one must build a quality product that would withstand the test of time.  This belief served as the basis of all future product  innovations  - quality products designed to withstand the test of time.

It is this focus that distinguishes Ajax from its competitors. Its inherent loyalty to its customer base has been the basis of several long-term relationships, some spanning over 5 decades.  At Ajax, we are committed to providing quality products, superior customer service, and innovative solutions to meet the market’s needs.

Sadly, Ed passed away February 8, 2010. He was 88 years old, and an integral part of Ajax up to the very end. His daughter Jane, who has worked by his side since 1995, now takes the reins and continues his tradition of producing rugged, built-to-last products.

Today, Ajax brings three top-notch brands to the market:

  • Ajax Inclined Water Tube Heating Water and Steam Boilers
  • Atlas Copper Fin High Efficiency Condensing Boilers
  • Ace Plumbing Products:
    • Copper Finned Water Heaters
    • Mini-Pack Semi-Instantaneoud Water Heaters
    • Unfired Steam Generators

 for Commercial and Industrial applications.

Ajax has also introduced a Smart Boiler Control System™ for its products, utilizing Cloud Computing technology.

Low Emissions Boilers

Working with the Southern California Air Quality Management District since 1985, Mr. C (as he his known to his friends and colleagues) developed the Ajax Pre-Mix Boiler, and the Ajax Low-NOx Boiler.  Similar technology was then transferred over to all fired product lines – Ace Water Heaters, and the new Atlas High Efficiency Condensing Boiler.
